TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBouldersI had the opportunity to fish lake Sharpe for 4 days over the last weekend. With water temperatures hovering around 50° the smallmouth are just getting ready to spawn. Fish the bluffs and rocky points with ned rigs, drop shot, or a swim bait will produce plenty of fish. My favorites this weekend were the PB &J colored Zman ned rigs, and the Okishira screw head with a 4" keiteck in a shad color. We also found walleye schooled up in about 20' of water and caught plenty of them also.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersEarly morning fish were reacting to top water prop baits being burned over rocks. As the day moved on and the sun got higher, fish would stay closer to bottom. Dropping a ned rig or drop shot right next to larger rocks became the easiest way to target these fish. Also a small swim bait produced fish consistently throughout the day.

TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureBoulders🔳 First off, what a beautiful lake. If you haven’t been out to Lake Sharpe, SD then it’s definitely worth the trip. 🔳 Day 1: caught a few on the morning bite and needed 2 in the box. Everything shut off, no matter where we ran or what we threw we couldn’t get a bit. We decided to run to the dam where we had some spots marked and at about 12:30 they turned back on again and we ended up catching 20 fish in that last hour. Nice fish but ended with a total of just over 11 pounds. 🔳 Day 2: We knew we had to go back and start at the dam based on how we ended. Good thing because we ended up culling by 6:45. That allowed us to slowly work our way up and continue to slowly make improvements on our fish. Ended up with 14.00 even, unfortunately we had one die on us in the last 10 minutes which dropped us back not only 1/2 a pound but out of 2nd place and out of the money. Most productive setup: ◽️7’4” ML - @badbass_customs - Daiwa Legalis 3000 ◽️ Z-MAN ShroomZ Micro Finesse Jig paired with a TRD BugZ We found that this little bait was the perfect little package whether that was fan casting, or sight fishing close to the boat, the fish couldn’t resist.
