Striped BassTechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonWinterStructureBouldersI went all the way to the Oconee Dam to look for cleaner water, but the entire lake was really muddied up from the rain the week before. The most consistent water temp was 48 degrees, and less than 2 ft of visibility. The hybrid were on top of humps or just on the side of boulders and would eat the umbrella rig if it got any closer than 3 feet. Putting it right in front of them was the key with the water being so dirty and having no wind or current.

Speed cranking the deep rocky areas and shallower transitions produced some quality bites. Alabama rig or a single smaller swim bait fished slow down these banks will also produce. I throw a 4.3 or larger Keitech on the A-rig and a 3.3 for a single jig.

Clear water throughout most of the lake. Warming trend had water temps around 60 and the fish were active around main lake rock. Med size A-rig with 3.8/4.3” keitechs produced well when bottom tracing.

Fished Feb 5, 2022 Water temp 50-52, heavy stain in the creeks but clear near the dam. Fishing was tough with the recent heavy rain and post front conditions. 3 good bites off main lake points for an 11lb bag. Fire craw colors are starting to produce but the Tactical DD produced our biggest fish (5lb’er).

Lake was clear and water temp 60. The shallow bite didn’t happen for me but I found a few keepers roaming the middle of the feeder creeks. They were aggressive on the jig head minnow.

Creek channel ledges in 20-30ft are productive for numbers this time of year. Your favorite drop shot bait fished vertically along these edges is definitely worth a look. Take extra time around any brush piles or chunk rock.

Main lake docks situated near a creek channel ledge are great places to search for Sinclair’s striped species. Largemouth will also frequent these same areas.

Fishing after dark on any main lake docks with underwater or over hanging lights can hold schools of hybrids and striped bass.
