Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonWinterStructureStumpsWent out for a ride with my wife today, went about half mile up Shingle Creek and fished back out to the main lake for a little bit and caught 3 small ones throwing up among the cypress trees and grass line along the bank, using a swinging jighead with the Yum Swim N Dinger on my new Trika rod, 7'3 medium heavy fast action, with a Soleus XCS reel.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft Body Swimbaits (Small/Medium)SeasonWinterStructureShadWe were out at Lake Toho during an open tournament. I ended up finding shad pushed back in a pocket. I was following the bait around while throwing the freeloader in the middle of them and letting it sink to the bottom. Then I would give it a couple pops and shakes and reel it back to the boat.

Largemouth BassTechniqueUmbrella RigsSeasonWinterStructureBaitfishToho has been fishing tougher than normal. The flip / punch bite had been really slow and the offshore fish are not grouped up yet. There is still a ton of hydrilla and the better fish are really spread out in it. It sounds weird but we are finding more fish where there is no grass. Clean areas with hard bottom are starting to hold fish, and if you find the right area there can be a lot of them. What we found this past weekend was the fish on these hard clean areas would occasionally school on baitfish. If you could get your bait to them fast enough, they would eat it almost every time. We were also able to get some of them to eat watching them on Garmin Panoptix but you really had to annoy them when they weren't schooling. The two baits that were most successful for us was a 100 - 110 sized jerkbait and an Alabama rig. I like to throw the jerkbait on a Dobyns Champion 704CB with a 7:1 Gear ration Daiwa Zillion 1000g on 12lb Seaguar InvizX fluorocarbon. For the A rig I like to use a Dobyns Fury 795 swimbait rod. This rod really takes a lot of the fatigue out of throwing the rig. I use a bigger reel, the Daiwa Zillion HD, and use 20 lb Seaguar InvizX. As for the Alabama rig itself, I like to use the Yum Flash Mob Jr. with the willow leaf blades. If you throw an A rig at all you will know that you go through a lot of swimbaits. I switched to a 4" Z Man Dizel Minnow a few years ago and will never go back. Each swimbait lasts as long as the full rig. It makes you much more efficient on the water which is important when they are schooling around you. Finding these fish can be a little difficult because they are off the bank, but I was able to find some of these schools driving around. Just go slow and scan until you see activity. Good luck!
