Wherever I noticed minnows busting the surface, I would fan cast the point for active white bass. This time of year is a good time to be on the alert for flickering minnows along the shorelines and any bird activity. Sonar can help locate bait balls as well. The size has been well above average this time of year.

I worked the Whopper Plopper around the points from different directions. Some smallmouth came up schooling and hit the bait as it passed through the area of activity.

When I would see surface activity, I would cast the Whopper Plopper in the direction of the activity and reel slowly and still get the sound. Strikes were often missed more than hook-ups, but it was fun while the surface bite was on.

Outside edges of emergent vegetation with matted grass held the most fish. Horny toad fished fast over these areas produced best.

Fished the back of a creek along shorelines and under bridges in the area. Most bites came over duck weed blown into the shallow water near the banks.
