- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsThrew everything, caught nothing. I switched over to the wacky rig and instantly caught fish. I love the action thief TRD FattyZ as compared to a Senko. The plastic is a bit more buoyant and the shape of the bait gives it a fluttering action on the pull and while sinking.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBrush Piles Largemouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonSummerStructureBrush PilesFirst day under 90F in awhile! Light rain and complete cloud cover all morning. Surface fishing wasn't working, so I switched over to ned rigs and the bass responded enthusiastically! Yoga pants is probably the best all purpose color offered by Z-man, and these worms stand perfectly upright.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueMicro CrankbaitsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueMicro CrankbaitsSeasonSummerStructurePointsThere are a lot of baby bass and bluegill in the water now and baitballs are showing up in spite of the heat. Small cranks are the way to go right now. All strikes were ~10ft off shore just where it started to cool off/deepen.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSummerStructurePointsWe've had lots of rain lately, so the pond was a bit higher than usual and fairly clear considering. I was trying out my new Shimano Complex XR on a medium light rod, jerking along the fluke and reeling quickly. The bass responded pretty aggressively! I'll be sizing down 1/0 hooks going forward.
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueCarolina RigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsIt's been brutally hot lately, punctuated by heavy rain, so the pond is a little high, a little murky, and there's a good amount of floating debris near the shore in some places. I decided to go with the Carolina rig this morning to get underneath the floating sticks and leaves to provoke some bites. Fished for 3 hours, caught 2 bass and a catfish, nothing over 2lbs. Better than being skunked!
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBaitfish Largemouth BassTechniqueSoft JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBaitfishThere were lots of shad bait balls around the pond, so I spent the better part of morning throwing the soft jerkbait around them. Several takers, just not a single bass over 3lbs. It was a fun Father's Day nonetheless!
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSummerStructurePointsI fished from 9:45am to 1pm. It was hot and partly cloudy, and most of the bait fish had gone to deeper water, it seemed. Swim baits weren't working, so I threw the wacky rigged worm and it yielded a few ~1lbs bass and a few fat bullheads. Better luck tomorrow?
- Species Largemouth BassTechniqueUnderspinsSeasonSummerStructurePoints Largemouth BassTechniqueUnderspinsSeasonSummerStructurePointsFishing around bluegill beds to see what was biting. I had witnessed some fairly aggressive bass come in to take bluegill, so it seemed like a decent strategy. I wound up catching an 8oz bluegill, a crappie, a white bass, and multiple bass in the 2-3lbs range. Omnia currently doesn't stock it, but my go-to soft plastic has been the Berkeley 2" paddle tail in grasshopper.
