Spotted BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonWinterStructurePointsWhat a day. I finished off 2025 on Dec 27 with what I called my best day ever at Bullards Bar....and started my time at Bullards in 2026 by blowing that away! I could have maybe even done better, but I kept trying other techniques and could only get the little ones. But that Sexy Shad Senko dropped down to between 30-40 feet off of selected points was pulling in some pigs! Four of my top Five were over 3lbs. And that fifth one in my bag was 2lbs 15oz. I kept trying to get all five over three pounds and among other things caught three more 2lb 15's. That would have been a first for me to have all five over 3lbs. So until proven otherwise....expect more Wacky Rig reports from me! That's a 3lb 12oz in the photo....

Spotted BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonWinterStructurePointsMaybe I saved my best day ever on Bullard's Bar for the last outing of the year? What a day! I've caught more in a single day, but not of this quality. They were all 2 1/2 - 3 1/2 lbs and just fighting like crazy! And at the risk of seeming like a one trick pony....the only thing I could get them to bite on was that Sexy Shad Senko on a wacky rig. I would find them bunched up on a point at 40-50 feet deep , so I'd let it float to the bottom and just barely move that Senko along with the tiniest of twitches and they just crushed it. Then I would try 5 other set-ups to no avail, go back to the Senko and catch another one. It was a blast!!! Also saw a first... when I heard a splash, turned around to see a deer half way across the lake, swimming from one side to the other. (about 150 yards) The video is the last bit of her swim before she climbed out of the water and up the shoreline. Only 32 seconds long....but a cool watch. Happy New Year and Tight Lines in 2026!

Spotted BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonWinterStructurePointsAnother day of search and destroy...although a little tougher this week. There was a surprise 7-8 foot drop in the water level that certainly switched things up from the previous 4-6 weeks. And another surprise was that I think the lake was actually turning over. Lots of air bubbles and a rare odor coming from the water...All of which had the fish on the move. So they were harder to find. I was using a crank and jerk bait until I found them, and then switched up to a drop shot once I did. They were still deep, 35-45 feet in most cases....and not quite as active as previous weeks. But I still got'em! :)

Spotted BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonWinterStructurePointsAnyone reading these knows I fish here a lot. I've decided this winter to really focus on off shore big game hunting. So as I've done the last few times out, I use a crank bait while I'm searching for a ball of kokanee to show up on the upwind side of points...and once I find them, I post up and drop a Sexy Shad Senko down right on top of them. It's such a fun pattern to fish. The bites are very subtle and I think it has to come down on their head to get them to bite. But it works! I did talk to a couple of guys that were shoreline fishing with jigs and catching lots of small ones...but the big boys are out deep gorging on Kokanee....

Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonWinterStructurePointsI forced myself off shore and spent most of my time at 25feet. I've been hunting down one of Bullard's legendary huge spots and came as close as ever, hooking into a massive, rod bending, line stripping slab, that I sadly wasn't able to land. So I had to settle for some 1.5-2 pounders. But another beautiful day on my favorite lake. In talking with some guys at the dock on my way in, it sounds like I should have moved even further out to the 40 foot depth. Next week...

Spotted BassTechniqueTrolling Deep (20'+)SeasonWinterStructureBaitfishFinally! After 3 weekends in a row that got wiped out by heavy rain storms we've had in the area, the sun came out and we went fishing! Went to New Bullard's Bar Reservoir in search of some of it's massive Spotted Bass. And although we never hooked into one of those, check out the "Pink" bass that grabbed a spoon at about 70 feet deep. Anyone out there ever seen anything like this? The photo has not been altered (or I would have gotten rid of the grumpy look on my son's face) and it truly was a bright pink color.

Spotted BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonWinterStructurePointsBeautiful day out on my favorite lake. It was a little tougher to pull them in than I thought it would be. But Bullards doesn't disappoint. I had some pretty good success with a drop shot. The 6th Sense Glitch is amazing in the water. I was focusing off shore from points in about 20-30 feet of water. I think I could have caught more if I had moved closer to shore....but I'm still hunting some of those elusive monster spotties and I'm told you need stay in a little deeper water this time of year to hook into one of those.

Spotted BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonWinterStructurePointsAnyone who has read one of my Bullards Bar reports knows I'm in constant search for the elusive monster spotties that are in this lake. Thank goodness we get to catch tons of their smaller cousins while we're out huntin' the big boys... Today, it was a drop shot in about 20 feet of water that was working. It seemed like the most productive spots were on the upwind side of points. I love those VMC Drop Shot hooks. Makes the rig so easy. And the Strike King Baby Z's are amazing.
