Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureBouldersFinally had some fun catching with something other than a wacky rig. Not that I'm complaining....I just like using different tactics and getting them to work. I was using the Cloud 9 Crank bait to search them out on points. And then would move in close and crush with the Zoom Trick Worm on a Texas Rig. I love the Okeechobee Craw pattern here at Bullards. The Spotties can't lay off that sparkly blue back. The water temp up another 5 degrees since two weeks ago...

Spotted BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBrush PilesThings are changing fast out here. With all the warm weather, water temps were up over 5 degrees just from last week. They're definitely off the deep points, but they haven't bedded down for the spawn yet. I had to find submerged brush piles and boulders to find them. Fortunately, I got my Omnia purchase of Z-Man chatterbaits just in the nick of time to use on Saturday. The Chattershad trailer was perfect! Buzzing those baits over and around the submerged cover would fire them up. I got a few on a Texas Rig with a 6th sense Hog-walla, but they would be smaller sized. It seemed the chatterbait would fire up the larger ones....which is what we're all chasing. Good Day!

Spotted BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRock PileThe bass are finally waking up! We've had nice run of about 10 warm days and nights in a row and I believe that got them thinking about the spawn. So they're off the deck (although I was still doing well with that Senko Sexy Shad twitching along the bottom at 20-30 feet) and roaming around. As much as I love finesse fishing....I like casting and moving around too. So it was fun to be on the lookout for submerged rock piles, drop offs and cover and then bringing that KVD 300 Jerk Bait over the top....they had a hard to time resisting! I always look for baits and lures that have a purple shade in there...it matches up well with the flash of a kokanee...

Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructurePointsFinally! Got my car back....so I could pull my trailer...and my first stop was Bullards Bar....has to be my favorite lake in my area. So many options available! I went up chasing one of the legendary giant Spotties that lurk in these deep waters. Throwing large swim baits and deep diving crank baits out on the main body of the lake. When that didn't get any results, I headed up the main fork and had a blast all afternoon throwing a Texas Rig setup with Strike King 5" Ocho on a VMC wide gap hook. I was having best results on the up river side of point, and some success near laydowns tucked away in all the small coves that are everywhere. I'll get one of those lunkers about there some day....

Spotted BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructurePointsThis is my third report in a row with amazing results using the 6th Sense Provoke Jerk Bait, Shad pattern. It was rainy all day, about 25 degrees colder than it's been for over a week...so wasn't sure what the spots were going to be doing...turns out they were roaming the points. At midday, I thought I finally hooked into one Bullard's legendary bign's only to be surprised with my first ever double hook-up with two 2 pounders. Does that count as 4 pounder??? If this picture doesn't convince you to hit that Hot Bait link and try some of these provokes....well...

Spotted BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructurePointsI new this Yamamoto Sexy Shad Senko pattern would crush! I bought them specifically for Bullard's Bar because those spotties love to munch on Kokanee fry. And the translucent white, with those green flecks just nail the presentation. I started out with them weighted a little too heavy, but when I backed down to the 1/16 oz. nail weight, the Senko would flutter down at just the right speed. Shout out to the 6th Sense Provoke Jerk Bait that got me into a few as well. But the Wacky rig was the answer today. They're not quite into spawn mode yet...but it's coming soon.

Spotted BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePointsAfter spending the morning hunting offshore for a legendary lunker Bullard's Bar spotty....no luck there...I headed back in for an afternoon of working the shoreline with a trusty 5" Yamamoto Senko on a Texas Rig. I was cherry picking points and ledges, and also spent some time in a couple coves that offered some tree cover. I would post up about 20 feet off shore, and cast right to about 2 feet deep. Then a slow , twitchy retrieve would do the trick. It was another epic day out on my favorite lake!
