Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsCovered lots of water in a large creek mid lake. Water temp was 57 in the morning and up to 63 by late afternoon. Lots of small bass are up shallow in spawning areas adjacent to deeper water. We had to sort through the small ones to scratch out decent keepers. The larger fish seemed to be buried in wood cover, possibly due to the recent front that moved through.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureFlooded BrushOn this day, I targeted submerged timber on transition areas in front of shallow flats off the main lake. Medium retrieve speeds with the occasional long pause. I looked for softer bottom areas with sand/mud. 6-10ft was where I found them stacked but I would catch the occasional fish moving up onto the flat. Wind was moderate and variable (5-10 mph NW) with blue bird skies. Outside temp was in the upper 50’s.

Largemouth BassTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapWent out to Old Hickory Lake with my buddy and he was able to catch a nice 3 lb largemouth and 2.8 lb smallmouth on a green pumpkin z-man chatterbait close to rip rap with some grass off a point. Had about 2 ft water visibility with a little wind coming from the east.

Largemouth BassTechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationMost of the fish were still deep. Water had about 2 feet of visibility. The vegetation is still very dead but a nice 3lb large mouth hit it on the first hop right up next to the vegetation.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationMy PB came on a cold windy day in some shallow water not too far off the main lake. We started off by fishing in a cove as we thought some of the fish have started to move back but after hitting a few different areas we decided to move towards the main lake. Water clarity had a nice green tint with a 8 to 12 inch visibility. This 6.8 lb bass was caught with a shad color OG Rocco that dives to around 5 ft with 10-12 lb flurocarbon. I personally like to spool my Shimano Metanium MGL with Sunline FC sniper. For this technique, I like to use the Shimano Expride B in a 6'10 medium power, moderate action. The shorter length rod allows me to make short accurate cast and the moderate action helps keeps the fish pinned.

Smallmouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureOpen Water/BasinActual rod used is the Orochi XX Ronin spinning rod. Actual bait used is the Megabass X-80 jr. in the Elegy Bone color. Took a while to dial in what they wanted but apparently they don’t want the jerk, jerk, pause, or any other cadence at the moment. Just a slow, steady retrieve on that 6.2.1 Miravel and they smoke it. Also did notice I am catching spots now in this same area I only caught smallies and the occasional large mouth. Have not caught spots there in the past.
