TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationMaking long cast with a frog into submerged vegetation, lily pads and shaded areas worked well. Walking the frog quick with stopping after a few twitches was the best way to get them to bite. Punching in the duckweed right after a miss also helped get a few extra fish in the boat. Ripping a swim jig on the weed edges and through the lily pads produced well as well.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassHigh water usually means get up in there. This outing was a little different. I found the fish up shallow but they didn’t want to get all the way up there. They were almost off the first “break.” Chucking a frog and swim jig around in the junk was a whole lot of fun though. Key per usual is finding the cleaner water.

TechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSummerStructureRip RapCranking rock structure in pool 8 was the ticket for my 5th place finish in La Cross. A small swimbait was also a good cleanup bait.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureLily PadsThe pattern was VERY specific. Current in shallow downstream cuts with reed-lined banks and clear water was the key. Several other smaller Bass caught on a small spinnerbait along reed edges but the Slop gave up a nice one as did a inundated stump. We found the right conditions in Running Slough.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSummerStructureStumpsFlipping the undercut banks in the backwaters around the goose island area helped to carry me to a 7th place finish in a tournament out of La Crosse the 15th. The most productive banks had stumps or standing timber on them. Also don’t overlook the inside bends.
