Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsCaught this 6.25 largemouth 1pm dead calm while Pitching weighted Senko. It was in 2’ of water. The water was staying so I could not tell if it came off a bed, but that was my guess. We caught about 25 See largemouth that day all in less than 4 foot of water. This would be the biggest.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureFlooded BrushThe fish were feeding early in conjunction with the shad spawn. It slowed down until the water temperature hit 73 a few hours later the it picked up again. 10 fish for 2 guys. But we left fish to explore new locations. Getting ready for a Midweek Bass Club tournament.

Largemouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushWe caught over 20 bass all day on spinnerbaits. They bit well before dawn and again at noon onwards. Even when the wind was nonexistent. We could not catch any pitching fish. That was strange. This shallow pattern will change soon enough to summer structure fishing. Enjoy while you can.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSummerStructureFlooded BrushTexas Rig worms and creature baits did well on this heavily pressured body of water. The lake is very high and moving into post spawn conditions. There is a very large amount of fry us the water and lots of bluegill moving around. The bass have a large amount of bait fish to eat so fishing was a lil slower then last few weeks. Had to put in a little more work. Texas rig worms from Roboworms (main star of the show), curly tail/ribbon tail, and creature baits or crazy leg craws did fair as well. Average catches came in 6ft -12ft of water. Slow down, pitch into as many bushes and lay downs as possible, there is a lot and I mean A LOT of brush and submerged trees and every tree could hold a beast or at least hungry buck bass, but again there is tons of fry and bait fish stirring. Combo that with strange weather over last few days the bass are a bit more tight lip’d but catchable. Top water is just around the corner!

Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBrush PilesTaught a 4H class today from the bank using KastKing spinning gear (kastking sponsored the event) at Roosevelt lake. The kids were novice anglers and this is their first time ever fishing. The water levels are the highest in history and there is little to no shoreline fishing. I knew it would be tough and the kids needed a technique that was easy and produces with little effort- drop shot wasn’t good for all the structure but POWERSHOT was the trick. 12-15lb KastKing Kovert Flouro, robo worm hook, and 1/4-3/8 dropshot weight. Right now any kind of worm in the trees will produce. From powershot, wacky rig, weightless sanko, pegged sanko, Texas rig worm or brush hog will flat catch em. If flippin use 17-20lb Fluoro. Wind blown bank in afternoon especially productive.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureFlooded BrushWe got on the lake at sunrise and fished coves with crankbaits. I caught my bass on the Rapala Rocco and the BX Brat. All the fish were shallow and hanging around submerged brush where there was also a clean and rocky bottom. The fish were mostly in the mouth to the middle of the coves for us. The key was finding banks with river rock and submerged trees and brush and casting right up to the bank and coming in contact with cover. There were some buck bass on beds but they weren’t locked on. The bite was on fire from sunrise to about 9 to 9:3O am and then it shut off. I also caught the bass in the picture on a green pumpkin swim jig with a speed craw trailer fished in the same areas as the crankbaits.
