TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureReedsMink side of the lake is already THICK with vegetation and was recently sprayed. With that said, we still had a very successful day on both sides. Caught a few on frogs but the vast majority came on green pumpkin senko weightless Texas rigged. Fish were shallow with some still guarding beds but most appear to be spawned out already. Had good success in shaded areas and around bullrushes.

TechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureSubmerged VegetationI started the day throwing whopper ploppers on Somers lake in somewhat shallow water. I caught dinks. As I started to work out to deeper water, I was marking lots of fish in 10 FOW. I move to the connected Mink Lake. I found a bowl shaped area that was 10 FOW. I caught 7 quality bass in one hour. The best being the 18.5" shown. I even got a 32" Northern in that time! Woohoo! :)

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Worming)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureMatted GrassCrushed it today! Multiple bass in the 4lb range with a couple approaching 5lb. They were after the weightless Texas rigged senko (black/blue) straight to braid being that it's already thick vegetation out there. Caught them both up shallow and in about 6' of water on the edges of grass mats.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationSomers Lake has tons of great habitat for Largemouth. Surprisingly clear water conditions compared to the connected lake to the north. If wind is low, this opens up opportunity for sight fishing, particularly along the northern shoreline of this lake. Cast out a jerk bait on a moderate action rod on the front and back of weed lines. Regulate cadence of jerks and pauses to fine tune where the fish may react for a bite. The husky jerk is my favorite bait this time of year for three reasons: 1) it's an excellent bait to cover water and pick apart structure , 2) it's semi-forgiving when encountering emerging weeds - usually a twitch and you're clear , and 3) it'll trigger a reaction from a variety of species from pike to the overzealous crappie.

TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureDocksSkipping jigs under docks and around shoreline structure has been producing very nice fish and throwing frogs in matted grass and Lilly pads has also been a good producer. Some fish have started to move out deeper onto the rock piles but there is still lots of fish up shallow.

TechniqueDeep Diving Crankbaits (13'+)SeasonSummerStructureRock PileBass are in their mid-summer holding areas. This is the time I like to focus on deep rock piles with crankbaits and a heavy hair jig. Make sure to make moderate contact with the structure when working the bait past.
