First stop, boom a chunky 3.5- to 4-pounder on a Megabass Magdraft! That Magdraft and the Clutch Eco glide bait were the stars of the show. We tried flipping a baby brush hog, but those fish just shrugged us off no size there. The real fun was chasing those pre-spawn clusters from main lake points, secondary points, all the way back. Honestly, the fish were scattered like kids playing hide and-seek. Secondary points probably gave us the best bite, but we were catching fish all over from the main lake down to mid-lake, state park, Mutton Creek you name it, we ran there. Now, anyone who knows Stockton Lake knows the walleye fishing can be a bit of a rollercoaster the bite goes from hot to cold. But if you hang in there, you usually end up with a nice limit. What Worked Last Night The real star of the show was a clown colored jerkbait. Seriously, that’s the MVP lure right now. The fish were hanging out pretty shallow once the sun dipped down think that 1- to 10-foot range. They’re up there spawning, and you can still pick off a few pre-spawners a little deeper before dark. Tips for Fellow Anglers If you’re planning a trip out there, definitely focus on those main lake and secondary rocky points. That’s where the action is. And yeah, you might catch a bunch of smaller fish before you get into the quality bites, but it’s a blast once you do.

The jig bite was on with the pee wee. Pre front bite till noon then the front moved in. Threw in some other baits as well. Mix of in a pocket towards the back on a flat with rock, and main lake points with rock.

Half the lake is currently pretty dirtied up, while the other half still has some cleaner water. It’s a tale of two conditions, which definitely made the fish a bit more scattered and tough to dial in. Tactics and Lures We started off in the cleaner water throwing a Motion Fishing football jig and an Alabama rig. We did pick off a few fish mostly around that two-and-a-half-pound range but nothing huge. We decided to make a long run up the river to the CC area, which looked perfect and had warmer water, yet the bass just weren’t home. We threw spinnerbaits and jigs, tried to get a bite going, but it wasn’t happening. Where We Found the Action Eventually, we headed back mid-lake around the Mutton Creek area. That’s where things started to pick up a bit. We managed to get some fish on the Alabama rig, a jerkbait, and a rock crawler. Still a slow day overall, but you can tell the bite is about to pop off soon. Stockton Lake is on the edge of turning on, and all the lures I mentioned are definitely in play right now.
