TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRock PileCrushed big smallies fishing rock/gravel/sand transitions. Dropshots, tubes, and hair jigs have been producing but a hot bait for me has been a big ned trd in any baitfish color. The trick was to trim a half inch off inch off the ned trd if you can rig the bait to get it to spiral on the fall it looks a lot like the dying alewives. Most hits came on the spiraling fall.

TechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureLaydownsVery good amount of fish on beds. A good number of big smallmouth are still hanging out shallow. I caught fish on the drop shot as well as a 3.3in swim-bait rigged on a ball head jig. Per usual you could mark fish by pilings but no takers. Most of the fish were group by laying down trees and logs but many were scattered in the boulders and gravel as well.

TechniqueSpybaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBouldersLoooong casts with 8# braid and 6# flouro was the ticket. I liked using a super tiny VMC crankbait snap to swap through colors quickly but black was definitely the winner.
