TechniqueSwim JigsSeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureRiver ChannelsI like a smaller profile swim jig when targeting smallmouth bass. My 2 most used trailers are Reaction Innovation Petite Twerks to imitate crayfish and ZMan Diesel Minnows for bait fish. I like the buoyancy of the Diesel Minnows. When I pause the jig on the bottom the Diesel Minnow stands up imitating a feeding bait fish.

TechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureBouldersGreat Ned head. The titanium weedguards really helped prolong the bait from getting snagged, and did not impede hooksets. The thicker gauge hook helped me muscle smallmouth out from laydown and various cover. Pricey, but worth it.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsBass season in PA opened over the weekend. Fished the first summer tourney of the year out of Sunbury. Had a fun day blasting post spawn smallies up shallow winding a toad. Had some wild blow ups and put enough in the box for some gas money ending up 3rd. Lunker was 4.20 which is pretty impressive for a non goby eating River rat.

TechniqueBuzzbaitsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsFirst summer derby of the year my buddy and I took the W throwing two baits. Put 17.37 lbs of river smallies in the box throwing a buzz bait and backing it up with a horny toad. It was mostly overcast allowing us to do it most of the day but when the sun peaked out we found shade and laydowns. We didn’t have a lunker but 5 really good quality fish.
