Northern PikeTechniqueBladed JigsSeasonSummerStructureMatted GrassFirst time out here. Generally good conditions for the day, overcast with a light breeze. The bridges connecting the lakes are low where if you have rods greater than 6.5’ sticking upright; it’ll grind against the wood…ask me how I know 😂 Other than that, not many bites today; but when I did, it was big! Caught a big Smallmouth with a DT10 along the river current towards the bridge, but it got loose as I grabbed the net. Very nice bronzeback! Otherwise, most of the day was spent along the drop off line (which also generally followed along the matted vegetation) that resulted in several well-fed northerns coming off the jackhammers! Water clarity was low and had a ton of floating debris, so white and chartreuse worked well for us today.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted Grass5/30/21- Weather was cloudy and rainy with highs in the 50’s, Water temp was in the low 60’s. We were able to find largemouth underneath matted grass by flipping into openings. If you hit the right opening, they would smack that Big Bite baits Craw tube on the fall.

Largemouth BassTechniqueGrass JigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureLaydownsTons of grass/weedlines to flip around on this lake but laydowns and docks were most productive today with a 1/2oz flipping jig. A lot of bass still up shallow chasing bluegill on beds. Plenty of 3-4 pound fish - really fun lake once you get dialed in.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassPunching the center of the mat. 3/4 oz tungsten weight pegged with a Texas rigged creature hawg. Look for thickest part of the mat and bust through it.

Largemouth BassTechniqueWacky RigsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassThe lake is currently in post spawn transition as the water temps are already in the mid to upper 60s. The larger fish seem to be targeting spawning bluegills on shallow spawning flats. Look for large openings in the grass mats and pick these apart using a weightless wacky-rigged senko. The fish are cruising the thick weed edges so make sure to work your bait parallel to the grass edge or on the surface right inside of the grass edge. Stealth is KEY! If these fish see you, they will not bite. If you do spook them, back off and let them rest for 10-15 minutes before working the spot again. Repeat this pattern around the entire lake. Some stragglers are on beds, but this I would not recommend spending any time trying to bed fish as the majority of the fish are transitioning into summer patterns.
