Real close on doing so. Just fishing the lure slow letting bounce off the bottom. The new conversion of transitioning over to the Shimano mastiff FC has made a big difference for me. Very strong fluorocarbon fishing line.

CrappieTechniqueCrappie Sniping (Casting/Single Poling)SeasonWinterStructureStanding TimberPost front with winds out of the NE blowing 15-20. Fishing was tough with the higher winds. Spot lock was important and I realized that an independent turret for the LVS34 is a must have. The fish are in 18-24' and holding tight to the timber. Holding your jig steady in front of their nose was necessary to get them to react.

Largemouth BassTechniqueNed RigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRock PileI fished the MLF Abu Garcia College Fishing Southern Conference Event on the lake on 01/21/22. The weather was extremely brutal, with outside temperatures of 25 degrees in the morning with 15 mph winds and a wind chill of 18 degrees. The wind made it very difficult to navigate the lake, so after making our morning run to our first spot, we decided we were going to sit and soak that spot all day in order to maximize our fishing time and give the wind some time to die down as we knew it was supposed to get better later in the day. The spot we decided to fish was a roadbed at the mouth of a major spawning bay that we had caught a lot of nice fish on over the course of our 2 practice days for the event. We fished the spot for about an hour to an hour and a half without a bite, but we could see the fish along the roadbed on livescope, so we did not lose faith in the spot and continued to cycle through baits until we found what they were biting. In practice, we had caught them on jigs, jerkbaits, squarebills, texas rigs, and chatterbaits throughout the lake, but it was much warmer outside and the water was much warmer as well. The day before the tournament a brutal cold front came in and dropped the water temperature in our area about 7 degrees, so we knew we would have to slow down and finesse fish to get the fish using the area to bite. After the first hour and a half of fishing with no bites, we slid down the roadbed about 70 yards to the deepest spot along it, where there was a submerged bridge. Once we got there, we noticed that there was a large group of fish suspending off of one of the sides of the submerged bridge, where it dropped off into the old creek channel, and we set up on them and began to drag some baits through the school. Over the next 5 hours, we were able to utilize a drop shot, a ned rig, and a finesse jig to slowly pick apart the school, and we ended up catching a 5 fish limit weighing in at 16 pounds, which was good enough to get us 3rd place out of 73 boats and a ticket to the MLF Collegiate National Championship in 2023. I have included a picture of our bag at weigh in for you all to see. Overall our experience on Toledo Bend this last week was amazing, especially since it was our first time ever coming to the lake. We could not have asked for a better result. Thank you all for reading my reports and tight lines.

Largemouth BassTechniqueFinesse JigsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureDocksThis report is from my trip out to the lake on 01/19/22 when I went out for my final day of practice before the MLF Collegiate Southern Conference event on the lake on the 21st. It was sunny this day with not much cloud cover and and a slight breeze, as outside air temperatures were about 45 in the morning hours and rose to about 70 degrees at its highest point. The water temperatures on the lake this day ranged from 53 - 57 degrees, and the water had about 12 - 18 inches of visibility. We started the day dragging jigs on a roadbed at the mouth of a spawning flat in 6-14 feet of water and caught some nice fish. After that, we made our way down to a stretch of docks on a steep bank with the main river channel swinging up underneath the front of the docks. The docks were in about 3-15 feet of water, but the channel swinging up next to them got as deep as 50 feet, and when we idled over it we could see pods of baitfish in the deepwater, so we knew bass would be close by. We fished down the docks flipping finesse jigs along the deeper posts at the faces of the docks, and were able to catch a 5 fish limit weighing somewhere around 12 or 13 pounds. After that, we pulled up on a shellbed in about 3-9 feet of water and picked up 1 bass weighing around 5 pounds on a chatterbait. It was a great last practice day for our first tournament of the year and we had a blast! I have attached a photo of one of the dock bass we caught that day, the size of that fish was about the average size we were catching. Thank you all for reading and good luck out there!
