It’s not hard to see the millions of shad all balled up going back and forth down the bank. The issue is getting those bass to commit to your lure. They are keyed in on bait fish right now. Be patient and finesse them. One bait I forgot to mention that finesses them is a hair jig.

I tried everything from jerkbaits, topwater, dragging, flipping, cranking you name it. I finally got on a consistent jig bite and never checked up.

The bass have the shad pushed up shallow. A lot of bass are schooling as well so topwater plugs, rooster tails, spinnerbaits are hot right now!

We’ve had quite a few cooler nights recently with temps down in the high 50’s and low to mid 60’s. The first cold front had most of the fish shut down and lethargic. Since then they’ve turned on and feeding like crazy. Now is a great time to get a spinnerbait, bladed jig, square bill, DT 10 and start covering water!

I participated in the TRA tournament and had a tough outing. The water was down a foot and some change and no current was being pulled. Today was more of a junk fishing day to say the least. I threw everything under the sun and caught a mixture of largemouth and smallmouth. I believe the lack of current and water drop page had the fish in a lethargic mood.

The largemouth are scattered right now as some of them are transitioning into their fall areas. Both species are pushing shad up shallow and feeding early in the morning and late in the evening. The Rapala Shadow Rap has produced when other baits will not. Additionally, I use a Wrecker Baits Check Cashier Shakeyhead paired with a Googan Baits Bandito Bug to slowly drag off points and ledges for the lethargic bass.
