2022 Ambassador Activity Recap
Thank you ambassadors!
In 2022 our ambassadors came through with the fishing reports in a big way! Not only did we grow our fishing report library we also have many more ambassadors filing reports. This year we charged past our milestone of 10,000 reports housed on the site, organized by lake and ready for anglers across the country to read and use in their planning. In fact our reports were viewed more than 26,000 times so far this year!
Top 3 Species of 2022
We currently have 25 different species to report from and the 3 most popular were no surprise. Largemouth and Smallmouth bass topped the charts, and reports on walleye were the fastest growing category.
Top Three Techniques of 2022
When filing reports our ambassadors are able to choose from 55 different techniques. All of our reports have a wide variety of techniques filed, but 3 techniques stood out to us.
#1 Technique of 2022: Drop Shots
With 7.8% of reports and 608 total reports, the drop shot is a staple finesse fishing technique. It has become a option that pretty much every bass fisherman needs in their arsenal. When we have to slow down and entice those finicky fish to bite, this is the situation where the drop shot really shines.

#2 Technique of 2022: Bladed Jigs
With 6.9% of reports and 541 total reports, the bladed jig is known for its versatility and ability to catch fish anywhere. The bladed jig can be used in clear or dirty water and is effective with all forage types. Matching the color of the bait with the appropriate forage species will surely produce bites. For example, if your fish are feeding on shad then a white or silver bait will be the ticket, whereas if fish are feeding on bluegill or perch, green pumpkin and greenish hues will be the best choices

Lake was fishing tough as a cold front had just pushed through the night before. Tried a few slower techniques with no luck. Switched over to a Z Man Chatterbait with a white Z Man paddle tail trailer and put a few fish in the boat. Nothing big, but fun to catch!
#3 Technique of 2022: Texas Rigs (Pitching and Flipping)
With 6% of reports and 466 total reports, texas rigging is one of the best ways to catch bass. Texas rigs can be weightless or weighted. Nearly all soft plastics can be Texas rigged in some way, allowing the angler to fish plastics in the heaviest cover.

Texas rigged stick baits good along banks in grass and reeds and along boat docks on North side of lake. Black, black&blue, and junebug working well with 1/4 oz tungsten flipping weights unpegged.
Top Bait of 2022: Z-Man Jack Hammer Chatterbait
With 289 reports, it is no surprise the Z-Man Jack Hammer Chatterbait is the most reported bait of 2022. Its flat-bottom, low center of gravity head and super thin, strong stainless steel blade enable the Jack Hammer to start vibrating quickly and hunt in an erratic, side-to-side motion, just like a frantic baitfish. Its signature head and blade combo allow it to deflect off cover very easily as well, and also allows it to skip easily beneath docks and overhanging trees like no bladed jig before.
Best of Baits of 2022 State by State
When it comes to identifying the best baits for a successful fishing outing, local knowledge is key. What works for one region may not work at all in another. That's why we collect thousands of detailed fishing reports from anglers across the country to power our local recommendations. This report leverages all that data in order to present the baits of the year for 2022.
