For late-summer smallies, target the bluff walls on the outside of a channel swing with a Ned rig. I like the 1/8 oz Outkast Ned Heads because they fall slowly. On the initial fall, watch your line and keep your rod positioned for a good hook set!
As a secondary Ned rig target, look for shallow water (2-6’) with a rocky bottom, especially in or near creek mouths. Follow the baitfish (minnows and shad) and pitch around them. Work it slowly and don’t be afraid to let the jig sit on the bottom for a bit between twitches.
I landed the smallmouth in the attached picture along a bluff wall with a 1/8 oz Outkast Ned Head and a Missile Ned Bomb 3 1/4”.
