This report is from my trip out to the lake on 01/19/22 when I went out for my final day of practice before the MLF Collegiate Southern Conference event on the lake on the 21st. It was sunny this day with not much cloud cover and and a slight breeze, as outside air temperatures were about 45 in the morning hours and rose to about 70 degrees at its highest point. The water temperatures on the lake this day ranged from 53 - 57 degrees, and the water had about 12 - 18 inches of visibility. We started the day dragging jigs on a roadbed at the mouth of a spawning flat in 6-14 feet of water and caught some nice fish. After that, we made our way down to a stretch of docks on a steep bank with the main river channel swinging up underneath the front of the docks. The docks were in about 3-15 feet of water, but the channel swinging up next to them got as deep as 50 feet, and when we idled over it we could see pods of baitfish in the deepwater, so we knew bass would be close by. We fished down the docks flipping finesse jigs along the deeper posts at the faces of the docks, and were able to catch a 5 fish limit weighing somewhere around 12 or 13 pounds. After that, we pulled up on a shellbed in about 3-9 feet of water and picked up 1 bass weighing around 5 pounds on a chatterbait. It was a great last practice day for our first tournament of the year and we had a blast! I have attached a photo of one of the dock bass we caught that day, the size of that fish was about the average size we were catching. Thank you all for reading and good luck out there!
