TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationAnother hot weekend on the jerkbait. About 18 bass & 10 crappie. Three slab crappies and three bigger bass. Two 2.25lbers and one nice 3.39lb 19" bass for my new PB. The big three bass were all on the Jackall Rerange 110 RT Perch. Throwing jerks as close to grass as possible and working them aggressively back to the boat with variable pauses. Natural/shiny colors definitely played better. I tried throwing an elegy bone 110 later in the morning and only caught a small walleye. Gill/minnow colors with some shine were the money baits.

TechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationCaught 13 bass and 7 crappies on the Vision 110 jr (FA Oikawa Metallic). Throwing on the edge of a grassline and inside some bigger holes in the grass where there was room. Dropped senkos in smaller holes in the grass and ended up catching 6 that way. Caught one on a 3/16 texas rigged scounbug in sandy flats. All bass 1-1.5lbs. Probably should have upped my size and messed with the colors but can't complain about 20 bass!

TechniqueHard Topwater (Popping)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationHad a great popper bite with the new Chubbs popper. I replaced the rear hook with a #6 feathered treble because I just like having that movement when the bait is at rest. Focused on shade lines with submerged weeds. Pretty much any areas that had gills nearby would produce a bite. I also caught a couple on a Spro Bronzeye frog when I got around some thicker vegetation as well.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureMatted GrassPost spawn situation. Lots of gills and panfish up near the surface around grass mats and weed edges. Caught most on the frog but also sight fished up a cruiser and caught one on a buzzbait.

TechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationThere was a tournament going on this day so many boats out on a small lake. Took the trolling motor through dense vegetation. Many bass hunting in the grass. Even more bass up shallow in the sand where the vegetation died off. However, these fish were cruising/on beds. I was working a weightless fluke through the grass, but no hits on that. Partner caught a couple on a weightless mb fat finesse work working it and jerking it through the grass. I caught two decent ones throwing my texas rigged TRD bugZ with a 3/16 flipping weight on the #1 ichikawa up into the shallow sand. I was able to sight fish where groups of them were and cast as close to the bank as I could. Hopped the texas in front of them and got two to bite. Fishing it on a 7'2 ML+ Expride and a Tatula 100. 30lb sufx 832 to 12lb Invizx but will be switching to japanese #1.5 braid, ligher leader, and a BFS spool soon.

TechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationWith the warm weather the last week C the water temps have jumped in to the low 70’s. I’ve seen tons of bass cruising with lots of bluegills up shallow as well. We worked the first emergent vegetation that we could find near a spawning flat and caught quite a few nice bass.

TechniqueStructure JigsSeasonSummerStructureLaydownsTargeted laydowns in deeper water. Bigger fish were off the bank in the submerged treetops. Used two trailers on my jig, both were from Bojangles Baits. When I wanted a slow fall I used a Cook Craw in Summer craw pattern and to get a faster fall I used a green pumpkin Z-Daddy.

TechniqueNeko RigsSeasonSummerStructureBouldersUsed my forward facing sonar to target largemouth cruising flats in 12-15 foot of water. The best areas had scatter boulders and isolated grass clumps. In the morning the fish were roaming more but once the sun got up they stayed closer to the cover and were harder to pinpoint. I caught two over 6 pounds doing this today!
