Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapJust got back (April 6) and fished the northern end (Dayton, TN) The Elites were practicing all week and everyone seemed to struggle as badly as we did! Lake is down, water mid to upper 50's but clear and the bite is tough! We caught a few with most coming on the DT6 Demon color on rocky points leading into spawning area's. It's gotta turn on any day!

Bass were transitioning off points from main lake into creek arms. Most were cruising along laydowns and chasing bait. Best success was running a spark shad along edges of laydowns and submerged timber or stumps.

Largemouth BassTechniqueShallow Diving Crankbaits (0-6')SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureRip RapLake Chickamauga was fishing very tough for the MLF College Open. Many teams were catching one or two keepers a day. We keyed in on riprap banks at the mouths of creeks that the fish will spawn in come that time. We would throw a square bill like the BX Brat or a spinnerbait like the Bassman TW to efficiently cover water and get the most bites.

Largemouth BassTechniqueTexas Rigs (Pitch/Flip)SeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLaydownsI had a three prong approach to the 2022 Bassmaster Elite Series tournament in the first half of April. Water was still low and slowly rising through the week so I fished any remaining cover on the bank back in protected pockets - shale rock, docks and laydowns. I threw a chatterbait on the shale rock first thing each morning - it produced a few of my bigger bites each day. After that I started running isolated docks in 0-3ft mid-morning on shallow flats that seemed to be ignored by other anglers. The rest of the day I flipped laydowns with a jig or texas rig in 0-3ft back in protected spawning pockets. My fish were pretty dirt shallow despite the cooler temps we had during the event.
