Smallmouth were orienting around structure on the bottom or hard bottom in general. Had to keep the bait about 3-4 ft above their heads, they would rise and chase, couple slack lined me. The other bait I had in rotation is the Hog Farmer Stroll shad 4 inch Electric Shad color. This smallie weighed 5-8 and I put together a 25 pound bag. Same set up and conditions on NYE, put together another 20+ pound bag. Winter smallmouth fishing is probably one of my favorite end of year activities and this lake produces so BIGGINS late December!
