Conditions were warming up, and the water was definitely on the dirtier side. Our Game Plan We decided to stick around the Wolf Creek area near takeoff and focus on some classic shallow water power fishing. We started off with chatterbaits and spinnerbaits but didn’t have much luck at first. Eventually, the crankbait turned out to be the hero of the day, especially in that dirtier water. We focused on main lake and secondary points, looking for any areas with a bit of wind or baitfish activity. The fish weren’t everywhere but when we found them we got mutiple bites in small areas. Key Catches and Results We managed to land a solid 5.5-pounder that really anchored our bag. After that, we filled out our limit with a few more fish over the 3-pound mark. When all was said and done, we weighed in at 17.89 pounds, which landed us in 14th place out of a field of 198 boats not too shabby. Final Thoughts We didn’t need to run all over the lake. Once we found a couple of key areas holding fish, we just stuck around and milked those spots for bites every hour or so. The pre-spawn bite at Grand Lake is definitely about to heat up, so if you’re heading out there soon, crankbaits and even a few chatterbaits can get the job done. Largemouth BassTechniqueSpinnerbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureLaydownsThe water varies in color depending on where you're at on the lake, but either a white or chartreuse spinnerbait seems to produce wherever you're at. Get in the back of the pockets and roll it by any wood you can find. A bladed jig like a vibrashock is also producing really well and several bites can be had around the same cover either flipping or dragging a senko.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard JerkbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructurePointsI just finished up the Bassmaster Classic in Tulsa. Day one was a bit slower for me but I was able to rally on day two and bring in 17-8 to finish in 30th place. I used a jerkbait a bunch during the event, primarily the Rapala PXR Maverick on 14lb line. I was focusing on windy flat points and deep channel swings in creeks.

Largemouth BassTechniqueHard Body SwimbaitsSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureStumpsMarch 12th - 17th: Here are my takeaways after the fishing the Toyota Series on Grand Lake. My practice was very solid as I caught quality fish on a few particular baits. These baits included a Berkley Stunna Jerkbait, a 1oz Single Colorado Blade spinnerbait, and Alabama Rig. I listed the Storm Arashi Glide Bait as the hot bait because once I caught a fish in an area in practice I did not want to hook too many due to how tough it was. I through this big glide around purely because of its draw power. Multiple times big bass followed it up to the boat or hit it (had rubber hook protectors on). I was concentrating on brush piles and stumps in very clear water. Biggest bass of the week for me was 5.14 lbs. Depth range was 3 - 15 ft. The tournament did not go as well as prefishing and I did not catch a single keeper. Quickly falling water in the morning repositioned the fish, and by the time I located them the current was nonexistent and the fish were very lethargic and lock jaw. Day two after the heavy rainfall that area rose over 2 foot but was blown out with muddy water. My co and I got on a pattern with A Rigs in Honey Creek but the bites were still very lethargic and hard earned. Wind blown points and 45 degree angle banks with an A Rig produced the most bites.
