Largemouth BassTechniqueDrop ShotSeasonSpring (Pre-Spawn)StructureBrush PilesThe first stop of the 2022 MLF Pro Circuit was on Lake Sam Rayburn, January 27-30th. I had a great first day dropshotting brush piles between 5 and 25 foot deep, catching prespawners that were using them to stage as they were working their way back into the creeks. I would use my Lowrance Active Target to see which brush piles had fish then pitch over to them with a Z-Man 7" finesse worm rigged on a 2/0 Hayabusa FPP straight hook for my dropshot. This let me texas rig them and work my bait through the brush without getting hung up. Not all the bass would eat it but if they were going to it was as soon as it hit the bottom. Once I had a solid limit I would go shallow throwing a Jackhammer with a Razor Shadz trailer to hunt down the bigger bite. It worked on day 1 where I weighed in 14lbs but day 2 was tougher and I never got that big bite and dropped from 25th to 64th place. Tried to hunt them shallow, got a few with the carolina rig along some grass lines. Moved over to some submerged grass in about 10 foot of water and caught a few more with a combination of carolina rig with flukes and a Texas rigged big worm.

Largemouth BassTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureStanding TimberAmazing day! Caught them on top water all day with our first fish coming on the Manns Baby Minus 1, otherwise all fish were caught on top water with the Pop-R, frog, and a chug bug in black/chrome. We had over 26 lbs as a team and placed 1st and 3rd individually in a 3-fish tournament. Our team weight was with 6 fish. The top waters you would give it a couple of twitches and then let it sit and they were choking it. Every fish had the bait way in the back of their throat. Find deep water near shallow with standing timber and hydrilla and you will find the post spawn fish in 1'-4' of water.

Largemouth BassTechniqueFrogs/ToadsSeasonSpring (Post-Spawn)StructureSubmerged VegetationGreat day today. Fish were biting fast and furious early on top water with popping baits. Chug bugs, pop-r, and popping frogs. Would alternate between popping frog, pop-r and chug bug in colors listed in report. Also caught quite a few on a shallow running crankbait and a weightless senko. Bite tailed off after 0930. Had a limit by 0745. The Mastiff fluorocarbon did great on the crankbait and senko.
