Medicine Lake (MN)

Reported by
Brandon Garrett
Lake Minnetonka (MN)
On Sunday, 5/16/21, with water temps ranging from 59 to 64 degrees, some bass were just beginning to appear at their spawning beds. But, more fish could be found feeding in the shallows on reaction baits. Casting along all the shorelines between docks, a good number of bites from keeper size, up to 3lb, non-bed fish came on bladed jigs or chatterbaits in 3-4 ft of water - with the boat in 6-7 ft. A few keepers were caught in these same areas on a swim jig and a flipping jig. A few bigger, close to 4lb, largemouth were caught in the channels between lakes on Tx rigged creature baits like a brush hog. If you head out there soon you may be able to take your pick between bass feeding in the shallows, or spawning on their beds.

SnowtaBass
Coon Lake (MN)
SnowtaBass reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Bladed Jigs technique and Z-Man RaZor ShadZ on Coon Lake. Additional comments from this report: "During the last few weeks in May some bass are spawning and others are done. With water in the 60-65 degree range, target bass in the shallow weed flats with a chatterbait. Look for bedding flats located in shallow bays usually 2-6ft deep with sparse vegetation and hard bottom. If you can find the beds the bass will be near. Cover a lot of ground in these bays and flats and you should have a decent day with the chatterbait as the main lure of choice. Switching to a swim jig if the weeds are dense and the chatterbait is getting hung up can help get a few more bites. You can also throw a spinnerbait in this situation as well if you are more comfortable with that over a swim jig and a chatterbait."
