Kent Mittelstaedt

Lake Yale (FL)

Additional comments from this report: "Mid January water temp 60-64. Some signs of bass spawning, but I think the majority haven't yet. When skies were brighter I caught some fish on a dropshot, but when it got cloudy and some wind I switched to the Spro Araku shad and caught a bunch fishing around hydrilla edges."

St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Casting Rods

$295 – 335

Reported by
Josh Duffel

False River (LA)

Josh Duffel reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Casting Rods on False River. Additional comments from this report: "We had a few weeks of warmer weather the past few weeks, but did have a couple of recent cold fronts come through leading up to this trip. So with the warmer trend, I figured the South End of the Lake would be good with the shallow flats and cover down there. I was began throwing a few different baits with a couple bites here and there, but once I tied on a Rat-L-Trap the bites really started to pick up. Fishing around docks, grass banks, and lily pads. Lots of little chunks, nothing huge but a fun day on the water! "

Reported by
Bob Downey

St. Johns River (FL)

Bob Downey reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Casting Rods on St. Johns River. Additional comments from this report: "I was fishing pre spawn fish around vegetation. I used a lipless crankbait with a yo-yo style retrieve to trigger bites. I had to switch to a faster action rod because the fish would eat the bait on the fall. I found both gold patterns in the Storm Arashi Vibe to be key in getting larger fish to bite. "

Reported by
Jay Wallen Fishing

Lake Eustis (FL)

Jay Wallen Fishing reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Legend Tournament Bass Casting Rods on Lake Eustis. Additional comments from this report: "Fish lipless Spro Aruku shad with the St. Croix Legend Tournament 7'3" Medium Heavy in offshore grass and shell beds anywhere from 4-6' of water. water temps are 64 and some bass are spawning and some are done spawning but the majority seem to be pre-spawn. Lipless and jerkbaits are the go to right now! "

St. Croix Victory Casting Rods

$200 – 275

Reported by
Kail’s Fishing Reports

Rainy Lake (MN)

Kail’s Fishing Reports reported catching Smallmouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Victory Casting Rods on Rainy Lake. Additional comments from this report: "Look for shorelines with a gradual break with a mix of large, small rocks, and sand. Put your trolling motor down and start working the shoreline. Late May through Mid June is best each year is different. The Smallys will be laying in the rocks and on there beds on the shoreline. Vary your retrieve speed and side to side. I like mono for the stretch when the fish hits so they don’t pull out of the hooks, check the last few feet of your line often for nicks. Watch for large rocks, they like to hide in and around them! Have Fun and Good Luck!"

Reported by
Kyler Branaum

Cedar Creek Lake (KY)

Kyler Branaum reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Victory Casting Rods on Cedar Creek Lake. Additional comments from this report: "if you go at the right time and the water is clearer, you can yo-yo a lipless crankbait out deep and catch some solid fish! its something they usually only see in the spring time up shallow."

Reported by
Nathan M Gravert

Guntersville Lake (AL)

Nathan M Gravert reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Lipless Crankbaits technique and St. Croix Victory Casting Rods on Guntersville Lake. Additional comments from this report: "The bite was slow, but if you continued to work grass you could find fish biting. We focused on main lake grass close to major creeks. I used a heavy action rod to with moderate-fast taper to be able to rip the grass free of the bait and provoke strikes. Getting the bait into the grass and ripping it out were key to getting most of the bites. Of course, a good red crankbait is what we used the most, but chartreuse was also productive. "
