There was a very light wind when the bite began, and as soon as it died down, it was over."

Reported by
Tin Ngou

Lake Lookout Shoals (NC)

Tin Ngou reported catching Catfish using the Live Bait Rigs technique and PowerPro Spectra Braid on Lake Lookout Shoals. Additional comments from this report: "During the dead of summer, I went out to the river to see if I can even catch anything. Usually during this time of year, it’s so hot nothing really wants to eat. The best way to catch any fish during this time of year when it’s so hot is to use live bait. Today I used a cast net and caught some shad and use them as bait. I was free lining the live shad on my megabass orochii enforcer spinning rod with a vanford 4000. I had 20lb braid to 20lb mono leader. I was using a size 1 hook for free lining because the smaller hooks allows the bait to swim more freely. I casted the bait out into deepest areas that was atleast 10 ft deep and let the bait swim around until it got bit. I was able to get a couple big blue catfish using this method. This technique allows me to catch almost any species in the river. But this day, only catfish was biting the live bait. "

Reported by
Cody Nielsen

Lake Minnewaska (MN)

Cody Nielsen reported catching Walleye using the Live Bait Rigs technique and Sufix 832 Braid on Lake Minnewaska. Additional comments from this report: "First off let me say the Berkley maxscent flat worm makes a dynamite spindrift/slow death bait. The maxscent flat nose minnow is also great on a crawler harness. Found the fish in the weeds in 14'-16' and also just on the outside of the weed edge in 18'-20'. Found pulling a hand tied spindrift hook ,northland butterfly blade with about a 3'-4' florocarbon leader was the ticket in the mid depth weeds. The 3/16oz weight seemed about perfect to just touch the weed tops at 1-1.1mph. If looking to just put a bend in the rod or keep your children entertained I would strongly suggest this method. Best part about fishing the weeds is you will catch a bit of everything, from bass, to walleye, to big gills and especially northern pike. Another method we found worked as the day went on was to pull a 1.5oz bottom bouncer and a hand tied spin drift rig with a northland butterfly blade or a standard crawler harness on the outside weed edge in about 18'-20'. Pulling the bouncers at 1.2-1.3 helped cover water at a quicker pace. "

Berkley Fireline - EOL

$19.99

Reported by
Kail’s Fishing Reports

Crane Lake (MN)

Kail’s Fishing Reports reported catching Walleye using the Live Bait Rigs technique and Berkley Fireline - EOL on Crane Lake. Additional comments from this report: "Mid - June is a great time to pull spinners along the wind blown shorelines, troll at .75 - 1.25 mph. get out away from the boat start with a 1/8 oz sinker. use your electronics to locate the fish, they are normally in 5' - 15' of water. Use a crawler or cut the back hook off and use a leach or minnow. The fish are normally feeding on minnows or bugs. when you feel the fish hit wait a second or two and set the hook, it will give them a chance to suck the bait into there mouth. I like to use a braid as my mainline but mono works just as good. Good Luck! "
