I fished a kayak bass tournament on Big Lake. The lake is surrounded by docks and has a great amount of vegetation and pads in the northwest end. I had some initial success with texas rigged worms along the pads until some river otters showed up. Later in the day was able to find bass using weedless wacky rigs on the edges of submerged vegetation, docks and brush piles.

Reported by
Ron Dohm Jr
Lake Michigan (IL, IN, MI, WI)
Ron Dohm Jr reported catching Smallmouth Bass using the Wacky Rigs technique and Daiwa Tatula LT Spinning Reel - EOL on Lake Michigan. Additional comments from this report: "Zero wind this day made the prespawn smallmouth extra cautious. Utilizing the long rod and a slow falling bait was crucial to my clients getting bites. The little bigger hook on the set up helped the bait fall purely and helped on hooks at the end of a cast our 30+yds. A key move was when one of the guys hooked up the other cast right at that same spot. This resulted in the double in this picture."

Justin Logan
Lake Marion (SC)
Justin Logan reported catching Largemouth Bass using the Wacky Rigs technique and Daiwa Tatula LT Spinning Reel - EOL on Lake Marion . Additional comments from this report: "Look for bedding fish in the back waters, but be sure not to overlook the docks as well as some fish will spawn around them. Braided line to a fluorocarbon leader on spinning gear works best and allows you to skip in to tight areas. "

Water temp was just under 80 when we hit the water and then we got slammed with some hard rain, not much wind. Cooled the water down a bit at the surface and made for an interesting bite. All but one of our keepers were on wacky rigs. The biggest was on a rat-l-trap at the end of the night. Caught a couple on frogs, swim baits and a BFS popper. I bent out a hook on a big one (damaged the hook earlier extracting it from a dog fish and should have replaced it). We ended up with just under 8lbs w/ 4 fish. 1st-3rd were all right under 9lbs.
